About Us

Our Story

In March of 2003, the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center was the first of nine World Birding Centers to open.

The center sits on 40 acres within a city park, near the heart of Edinburg, Texas.  Built on re-claimed farm-fields and next to the city's effluent & floodwater ponds, the Center is a showcase for wildlife and a native habitat site set amidst an urban setting.

Our Mission

The Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center works to educate people about the environmental necessity, economic value, and natural beauty of local wetlands.

What We Have To Offer

Experience nature and education at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center! Come and enjoy the beautiful wildlife scenery while immersing yourself in a unique natural and educational experience. At our interpretive center, you'll find:

  • A gift shop with a wide range of books, educational games, souvenirs, and apparel.
  • Interpretive exhibits providing information on wetlands, birds, butterflies & dragonflies.
  • An education classroom that is home to our fifth-grade wetland program as well as other programs and activities.

Explore the Wetlands:

  • The 3.5-acre native butterfly habitat surrounding the interpretive center offers some of the most diverse habitat in the region.
  • Our water features include two large wetland ponds, a canal overlook, a dragonfly pond, discovery pond, and more!
  • 2.5 miles of walking trails intersecting the gardens and ponds, making it easy to experience everything our center has to offer.
  • 7 different viewing docks to observe the abundant wildlife.
  • Various picnic areas with ventilation to enjoy a nice meal outdoors.
